The History of Shroyer Road Baptist Church (SRBC)
From its German Baptist beginnings, through to the present day, SRBC has endeavored to serve God faithfully in accordance with the teachings of Jesus Christ.
The founding of the church dates back to 1882. A group of about thirty people came together
and organized The Second German Baptist Church of Dayton. They dedicated
their church building on East Fourth Street in 1883. This church was one
of the founders of Miami Valley Hospital in 1888.
After beginning a transition
from German to English, the church was renamed the Fourth Street Baptist
Church in 1918. For the first time in 1931 the church conducted its entire
ministry in English.
The first service in the new building on Shroyer
Road was conducted on Easter of 1951. The educational wing of the building
was dedicated January 17, 1960. A youth center was opened in 1961 to provide
recreation and fellowship once a week for local youth. Regular weekly
Bible study was renewed in 1985 and a Macedonia Ministries weekend helped
stir the entire congregation. Pastor Ken Damon began his ministry there
in 1994.
Since then the church has gradually sought to deepen its spiritual
life, and to transition itself to be better able to reach a new generation
of spiritually hungry people with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
