SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Dear SRBC Members and Friends:

Shroyer
Road Baptist Church is seeking the prayers of all members and friends to pray for God to guide the congregation in "discerning God's will for 2009." This comes through a realization that we as a church have a great responsibility to be under God's direction in everything.

This is rarely an easy process. It is difficult to lay down our own agendas and preferences to do only God's will. Even Jesus wrestled with this in the Garden of Gethsemane. If Jesus found this difficult we can imagine it will be even more so for us.

The example given in the Bible for the transformation of individuals and groups as they seek to begin new endeavors under God's direction is to fast and or pray for forty days. Jesus is our greatest example of this important practice as He went to the wilderness led by the Holy Spirit to fast and pray before He began His public ministry. During this time of exclusvie surrender to God's mission was also a great time of temptation. We expect that will likely be true for ourselves.

One of the necessary goals for 2009 is to wean our congregation from dependence on our church investments. They are being quickly depleted and so we realize now is the time to act. We cannot possibly do this through our own strength and wisdom without damaging the ministries already offered by the church.

We know God has a plan but we must all come together to ask, seek and knock as Jesus teaches. We can trust God to completely guide us if we are willing to make the sacrifices to pray, and be open to the Lord in new ways. He will direct us if we humbly seek His guidance.

We are asking each person to spend 5-20 minutes each day praying for God's direction for the church and our openness to hear and obey Him. The prospects are exciting to say the least but it is also uncomfortable to venture into new realms without a clear view of the future. That is called faith!

During this entire week the Vinyeard Church of Dayton is praying for our congregation because their Prayer Society felt led to pray for our church. Can you believe the timing? They have one hundred people praying for our church for 15-20 minutes each day for seven days. As Marty said, that is over 10,000 minutes of prayer on behalf of this church. Praise God!

Thanks to all who were inspired to sign up to pray for forty days for God's transformation of SRBC as we discern His will for 2009. Your faith and commitment to the Lord's work through this church body will have eternal benefits for all of us.

Please call the church office if you would like your name added to the Forty Day Prayer Servants List. You can also sign the list Sunday or stop by and sign it this week.

The prayer began Sunday September 28th and will continue through November 6th. If you have not started yet please continue beyond November 6th as you so choose. Whatever God leads you to do be sure He will never waste your prayers!

God bless you and your loved ones!

FOOD PANTRY – UPDATE:

During the month of July we had fifteen (15) visitors to our Food Pantry. Five (5) of those visited the Food Pantry for the first time.

FOOD PANTRY NEEDS

Since April of 2007 we have seen a steady increase in use of the SRBC Food Pantry. Due to that increase we give each visitor a pre-bagged kit of items. Each kit includes food, personal care items and a beverage kit. In addition to these items visitors to the Food Pantry are able to choose two items from a variety of donated foods and one item from a personal care table.

The cost of each kit is $10.40 not including items taken from the tables, the personal care kit and the beverage kit. Our supplies of groceries and funds are running low. If you would like to help you can donate a kit or write a check to SRBC and write “Food Pantry” in the memo.

Those who visit the Food Pantry are grateful for the help they receive. Several visitors have donated food to the Pantry when their circumstances have improved. The Food Pantry has been a vital ministry to this community – thank you so much for your contributions.

Below is the list of items included in each kit:

1 Can Green Beans 1 pkg. Spaghetti Noodles
